"Marasmus has finally gained strength". Russia has "wiped its feet" on its citizens because of the 2024 Olympics
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has begun paying compensation to those athletes who will definitely not be included in the 2024 Olympics. The Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. ROC CEO Vladimir Sengleev confirmed that current athletes who competed in Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 and will not be able to go to the next Games will receive one-time payments from the ROC.
Olympic champions will receive 500,000 rubles (~5,400 dollars) each, silver medalists will receive 350,000 rubles (~3,800 dollars) each, and bronze medalists will receive 250,000 rubles (~2,700 dollars) each. Participants in the Games as part of the Russian Olympic team will receive 150 thousand (~$1600).
"We have started making compensation payments to athletes who will definitely not go to the Olympic Games. At the moment, 127 athletes have received the payment, according to the criteria we announced. Payments will be made in stages: as soon as we realize that the federation is not participating in the Games, we make a transfer," Sengleev said in an interview with Match TV.
Russian fans staged a real riot in the comments.
"They used to pay for winning, now they pay for not going. We're on the right track, comrades!", "And those athletes who will go don't deserve anything? Non-performance has SUDDENLY become more prestigious than performance, it's truly time to turn everything upside down," users write.
Many people call what happened a lunacy and a disgrace, noting that they were simply wiped clean.
Fans recognize that in this way the government is simply buying the loyalty of athletes.
