It's karma: the international federation that mocked Ukraine has been expelled from world sport

IBA stripped of IOC compliance status

The International Boxing Federation (IBA), headed by Russian Umar Kremlev, has been stripped of its title as a world sports organisation. This means that all competitions that will be held under its auspices from now on will lose their official status.

The decision was made at a session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday, 22 June, Reuters reports. Sixty-nine IOC members voted in favour of revoking the IBA's recognition, ten abstained, and one more supported the organisation, which is run by the aggressor country.

The reason for the harsh sanctions against the boxing federation was the IOC's inability to complete reforms in the areas of governance, finance and ethics.

The day before, the IOC had responded harshly to the Kremlev, which had called for violence and even was not averse to the physical destruction of some committee members who actively opposed the IBA's illegal activities.

Earlier, the IBA also ignored the CAS decision to ban the presidential election and re-elected Kremlev. As a result, the ardent fan of dictator Vladimir Putin lifted the suspension of Russians from boxing tournaments and imposed sanctions on Ukraine.

The IBA banned our country's junior team from competing under the national flag at the European Championships. In response, our team announced a boycott and withdrew from the competition. The legendary Oleksandr Usyk supported his compatriots and appealed to the Kremlev.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, IOC President Thomas Bach accused the Russian authorities of hypocrisy for saying that sport was politicised, but refused to take sides with Ukraine.
