"I pray for Ukraine": former absolute world champion challenged to fight Lomachenko
Former light-middleweight world champion George Kambosos (20-2, 10 KOs) is ready to fight Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) of Ukraine, who had a controversial loss the day before to American Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). The Australian noted that his fight against the native of Belgorod-Dnistrovsk could draw a huge audience.
Kambosos said this in a commentary on the YouTube channel Fight Hub TV. He expressed confidence that Haynie was indeed a bit stronger than Lomachenko and also emphasized his support for Ukraine, which continues to oppose the Russian invasion.
"It was a very close fight. Very good job from Haney. Lomachenko came back like a real champion. I don't think we should ruin such a good and technical fight with our talk. I got 7-5 by rounds in favor of Haney. He's the champion, but Lomachenko acted like a real warrior. I think from his side he won. But the rounds were very close. It was very difficult to judge each round. Lomachenko's future? I think he can pack a big stadium in Australia and fight Cambosos. But first let's let him come back to Ukraine. I pray a lot for Ukraine!" - said the Australian boxer.
To recap, Haney - Lomachenko featherweight fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena went all 12 rounds and ended by unanimous decision of judges 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favor of the American. The full judges' notes of the encounter were later published.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, after the defeat Vasyl Lomachenko could not contain his emotions and burst into tears while waiting for a press conference. During a flash-interview in the ring, Vasyl did not mention Ukraine, refusing to thank his homeland.
