"He mentioned my son": Fury's father says why he hit a Ukrainian with his head
The father of Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), John, apologized to the fans for provoking a clash with the team of Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). At the same time, the Briton accused Ukrainian Stanislav Stepchuk, whom he head-butted, of disrespecting his son.
Fury Sr. said this in an interview with the Seconds Out YouTube channel. The father of the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt holder added that everyone's emotions are running high on the eve of the May 18 fight, but he will always protect his son from attacks from others.
"We sincerely apologize to all participants. We are who we are. Emotions and tension are off the charts. He was a very disrespectful guy. If you come close to a soldier's entourage, you can get hit. For me, respect for my son is important, and he showed none of it. He mentioned my son, and that's it, so he should have gotten something in return. I'm not worried about the dissection. This is what we live for, we fight people. For me, it's a normal thing," said John Fury.
Earlier, Fury called Usyk a sausage again and promised to beat him. The British boxer also spoke about being bullied in his younger years, when he was offered to quit the sport, and admitted why he actually decided to fight the Ukrainian.
The referee of the Usyk-Fury fight also became known. He has been involved in several curious situations. Promoter Eddie Hearn wished the Ukrainian a defeat in the fight.
As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) will dep rive the winner of the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury of his belt. The legendary Lennox Lewis has also decided on his favorite fighter.
