Guruli told about the bribery attempt

They tried to bribe Georgian boxer Lasha Guruli before his final fight with Russian Tarkhan Idigov at the European Championships in the 67 kg weight category. After receiving a categorical refusal to give up the fight, the Russian representatives apparently bribed the judges.

Guruli himself told about this in an interview with the authoritative portal Inside The Games. The Georgian athlete noted that the judges unfairly gave the Russian boxer a victory in the first two rounds, although he lost them. As a result, Lasha refused to enter the third round.

"Before the fight, we were offered a large sum of money. They did not want me to enter the ring. When they refused, they said that they would use all their strength to win the fight. My strategy was to work from a distance - I wanted to avoid exchanging blows. Obviously, the Russian lost the first round - I didn't think there could be any other options, but the judges still favored him. In the second round, I worked differently. The segment was close, but I considered myself the winner. The judges gave the round to my opponent again, and then everything became clear to me," Guruli said.

It should be noted that the European Boxing Championships are held under the auspices of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) and are controlled by Russia. Its secretary general is Kirill Shchekutiev from the Russian national association.
