Fury to dodge Usyk rematch? The Briton says he 'does not need boxing'
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) considered giving up his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). However, in the end, the Gypsy King, as the Manchester native is known, decided to make amends for his defeat in the fight on May 18.
Fury spoke about this in an interview with the iFL TV YouTube channel. The British boxer reiterated his disagreement with the judges' decision to give Usyk the victory in the first fight. He also added that he was preparing not just to defeat his Ukrainian opponent, but to aggressively knock 'that c*** out.'
"People said I did not do any training. Listen, I thought about walking away from it. Because I'm over it now. I'm over the whole [__] boxing thing. Sit at home, going for a coffee, having a dinner, taking kids to school, coming back. I can do what the [__] I want. I don't need boxing. I don't need to go around and get my head punched in. But it makes sense. To do my rematch and get my victory back. I didn't think he beat me last time. And I'm damn sure I ain't going to let him beat me this time. I've got to knock him out," Fury said.
Last weekend, Tyson and Oleksandr met at a boxing show in London. A video of the fighters' conversation was posted online, and the Ukrainian called the Briton his brother.
We would like to remind you that in the first fight, Usyk defeated Fury by split decision - 114:113, 113:114, 115:112 - and became the absolute world heavyweight champion.
A month after the fight, on May 18, the Ukrainian was forced to give up the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt, which Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) defended on September 21 by brutally knocking out Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs).
