"Fulfilling our conditions": the IOC made a new statement on Russia's admission to the 2024 Olympics

The decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes at the Olympic Games-2024 in Paris will not be made until late fall of this year. At the same time, all other countries except Guatemala were invited to compete in the French capital.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced this to the headquarters of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games-2024 on Wednesday, July 26, the TASS news agency reported. According to him, the organization is closely monitoring the situation with the war in Ukraine, as well as the admission of representatives of aggressor countries to the tournaments in a neutral status.

"The decision on the participation of the Russians will depend on the development of the situation. We see how the national federations fulfill our conditions to ensure the participation of neutrals and individual athletes. We will continue to monitor this and then see how all those involved comply with the letter and spirit of these conditions. Based on the outcome, we will then make a decision. However, it will not happen in October," Bach emphasized.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, while echoing Kremlin propaganda narratives, advocated the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics, calling it a step toward peace.
