Almost a record: it became known how much Lomachenko earned for the fight with Haney
Former three-weight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) received three million dollars as a guaranteed fee for his fight with American Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) on May 20. Earlier, the media reported that the Ukrainian would earn no more than 900 thousand.
A reputable insider Mike Coppinger wrote about this on his Twitter page. According to him, this was the amount guaranteed to Lomachenko, excluding deductions from the sale of advertising and television rights. Haynie, in turn, received one million more.
Interestingly, the American absolute lightweight world champion earned $10 million for his rematch with Australian George Kambosos (20-2, 10 KOs). And the biggest fee in Vasyl's career was $3.25 million for his fight against Teofimo Lopez (18-1, 13 KOs).
Recall that Lomachenko lost to Haney by unanimous decision and failed to become the absolute world champion. At the same time, the outcome of the fight caused heated debate among experts and fans.
After the fight, the referee's notes were published, after which one of the judges was asked to explain himself. Lomachenko's team announced that they were lodging a protest against the outcome of the fight. In addition, the fight's punch statistics confirm that the Ukrainian won at least five rounds.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, after the defeat, Vasyl Lomachenko could not contain his emotions and burst into tears while waiting for the press conference. During a flash interview in the ring, Vasyl did not mention Ukraine, refusing to thank his homeland.
