"Words are always less than what we feel": Zelensky honored the memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine. Video
President Volodymyr Zelensky has honored the memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine. The head of state emphasized that the soldiers defended Ukraine's right to be among free nations at the cost of their own lives.
Zelensky emphasized that there are no words that would be enough to describe the strength, greatness and self-sacrifice of the Heroes who remain forever in battle. The President said this during a solemn event on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine (to watch the video, scroll to the end of the page).
In memory of Ukrainians and Ukrainian women who gave their lives defending our state, the President laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance of the fallen defenders in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The Heroes were also honored with a minute of silence.
"Words are always less than what we feel. And let the tears that will be today, let the silence that will sound louder than any words today, let our respect, absolutely sincere, tell everyone what we really feel and how grateful we are to all our defenders and defenders whose life became the life of Ukraine," the President said.
The President presented state awards to the relatives of the fallen soldiers.
August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, and Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky honored the memory of the soldiers who died in battles for Ukraine.
It should be noted that August 29 honors the memory of the defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence and territorial integrity. The date is timed to coincide with the events that took place at the end of August 2014 - it was on these days that the Ilovaisky tragedy peaked.
Of course, this is not the only day when we remember and honor the defenders and protectors. However, it was the Ilovaisky events that were key to the initial stage of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the hot phase of which continues now. This is a special day, an opportunity to once again remember and thank those who gave their lives for independence. OBOZREVATEL told about the key events of the Ilovaisky tragedy.
