An underground hospital has been set up in the Kherson region. Photos and video
An underground hospital for patients with infectious diseases has been set up in one of the medical institutions in Kherson region. It is designed for 22 inpatient beds, but if necessary, 20 more can be deployed.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The Ministry of Health did not specify where exactly the medical facility was equipped, only that the project was funded by the Kherson branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society with the support of Switzerland.
The Ministry of Health noted that the underground hospital was created "in the shelter of one of the medical institutions," namely in the basement of the hospital. The cost of arranging the shelter amounted to only UAH 2.9 million.
This money was used to equip two intensive care units with ventilators, oxygen concentrators, patient monitors, three wards for patients with infectious diseases, inclusive bathrooms, a room for storing medicines, and a room for catering for patients and hospital staff.
The shelter is equipped with a 60 kW generator. There are also plans to install a Tesla Powerwall 2.0 energy saving system.
In turn, the head of the region, Oleksandr Prokudin, showed a video from this shelter. He also did not specify where exactly such a facility was set up.
Last year, Prokudin promised that as many as four underground hospitals would be built in Kherson and the region. One of them, the "underground operating room," will be equipped to perform surgeries. Another will house a blood transfusion center.
The third project is an "underground perinatal center," which will include maternity, prenatal, operating, postpartum wards, and more. Another "hospital underground" will have intensive care units and boxes for patients with infectious diseases.
In August of this year, the head of the regional center, Roman Mrochko, said that "for the first time in Ukraine, an underground hospital is being built in Kherson." However, he was talking about real construction, not the conversion of basements.
As OBOZ.UA reported, most of Kherson region is still temporarily occupied. However, the right bank of the region has already been demined by 53%. At this rate, the entire Kherson right bank of the Dnipro can be cleared of mines by the end of 2025.
