Will he repeat the success of Avatar? James Cameron to direct a new movie about the atomic bomb
James Cameron is one of the most influential and iconic directors of contemporary cinema. His films have become not just box office hits, but also cultural phenomena.
Recently, the director has been actively working on Avatar, but it has become known that he plans to make a new film about the atomic bomb. Deadline told us more about it.
Despite the fact that Cameron is deeply immersed in work on the next installments of Avatar, including Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is scheduled to premiere in December 2025, he is making active plans for the future. In particular, he has acquired the rights to film the upcoming book by Charles Pellegrino, Ghosts of Hiroshima, which will be released in August 2025.
This film, titled Last Train from Hiroshima, will be the director's first major project outside the Avatar universe after his world-famous Titanic.
Given that the director has worked on three of the four highest-grossing films in history, expectations for his new film will be extremely high. But whether the movie about nuclear weapons will achieve the same success as Terminator, Titanic and Avatar remains to be seen.
The main theme of the movie
Cameron's upcoming film is partly based on the true story of engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who survived both nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.
Yamaguchi was on business in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, when the city was destroyed by the American atomic bomb. The next day, he returned by train to Nagasaki, where he survived the second atomic attack on August 9. After that, the man became the only officially recognized survivor of both bombings.
