"Usyk will end his career". The Ukrainian was urged to "kiss the English soil and thank it"
Former world heavyweight champion Mairis Briedis (28-3, 20 KOs) is confident that the victory of WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) in a rematch with British boxer Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) should be the last for the Ukrainian. According to the 39-year-old Latvian, Usyk should hang up his gloves on a nail.
"I think Usyk will finish his career. I would do that if I were him. Why? Because you have to be able to leave well. I think he has collected all the cream that he could. Thanks to the Super Series and the English boxers, he took everything he could take. Yes, he should come to England every time, kiss the English soil and say: 'Thank you for what you gave me,'" Briedis said in an interview for the Viktor Yalimov Boxing Studio YouTube channel.
Mairis added that Usyk has become the coolest boxer in Ukraine, but he would never have earned the kind of money he made in England.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on December 9, a few weeks before the rematch with Tyson Fury, Briedis expressed confidence that this fight would be the last in Oleksandr Usyk's career. According to the Latvian, who lost to our compatriot in 2018, the Ukrainian no longer has the resources to continue fighting.
In the first fight, Oleksandr defeated Tyson by split decision - 114:113, 113:114, 115:112 - and unified all the belts of the super heavyweight division.
On December 22, Usyk defeated Fury again and defended his titles. The seventh fight of the Ukrainian in the super-heavyweight division ended with a victory on points 116:112, 116:112, 116:112.
