Usyk tells how the postponement of the fight with Fury affected him
Unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will not change his training plan for his fight against Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) due to the postponement of the fight. Our compatriot organized a training camp in Valencia, Spain.
Usyk himself said this in an interview with the British publication The Guardian. The 36-year-old Ukrainian boxer stressed that he was ready to fight Tyson on December 23, but the British fight with Francis Ngannou (0-1, 0 KOs) made adjustments to the plans of the organizers of the historic show in Saudi Arabia.
"It has to be February, and I would really like it to be February. I was ready for the fight on the 23rd, but since Fury was injured in the last fight and got knocked down, the fight will be postponed to next year. Technically, nothing changes. I just have a little more time for some additional tasks, that's all. I don't think about Tyson Fury at all... I think about myself, my team, my family. I don't need to think about my opponent," Usyk said.
As a reminder, Fury defeated the Cameroonian by split decision. The fight was the seventh time in his professional career that the Briton was knocked down. Usyk admitted that he was very worried about Tyson during the fight.
Initially, it was planned that immediately after the end of the Fury vs. Ngannou fight, the date of the British champion's fight with Usyk would be announced. However, this was not done due to the dissection and other injuries of the winner. The photos show how Tyson looked like after 33 missed punches in the fight.
The media outlet named a new date for the fight and claimed that the British boxer faces a $240 million lawsuit if he refuses to fight Usyk on December 23. A video of Oleksandr's reaction to Tyson's knockdown in the third round of the fight with Francis was also posted online.
As OBOZ.UA reported, Oleksandr Usyk did not disclose his tactical plan for the fight with Tyson Fury. In addition, it became known that the Ukrainian is being set up for a fight against the Briton. Also, bookmakers have dramatically changed their quotes for the confrontation.
