Usyk suspended from boxing after defeating Fury in a rematch

WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) has been suspended for more than three weeks for medical reasons after defeating British boxer Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), givemesport.com reports. The same information is confirmed by The Mirror and Walesonline.co.uk.

The disqualification came into effect immediately and will last 36 days, which is a standard procedure after fights in the heavyweight division. This period includes a three-day rest for each round fought.

Given that the rematch went the full distance, a break in performances requires just such a pause. In the case of a technical knockout, the recovery time for the loser is increased to at least 30 days, regardless of the number of rounds fought, and after a knockout - up to 60 days.

Eliminating athletes after fights is a traditional rule in the boxing world. It is aimed at taking care of the fighters' health. It is worth noting that boxers' cards on boxrec.com have not changed. It still states that they can enter the ring at any time.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, after the first Usyk-Fury fight in May this year, the British Boxing Board of Control also suspended the Ukrainian.
