"Usyk is not even close": Fury's promoter named the strongest boxer on the planet

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Arum named the best boxer in the world

The legendary American promoter Bob Arum does not consider Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 11 KOs) to be the strongest boxer in the world regardless of weight category (pound-for-pound). The representative of Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) called the Japanese boxer of the second lightest weight Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs).

Arum expressed this opinion in an interview with talkSPORT.com. The promoter, who was unable to sign a contract with Usbok after the Ukrainian transitioned to professional boxing, noted that our compatriot looked bad in the middle of the fight with Fury, which did not happen with Inoue. Interestingly, the Japanese was knocked down in his last fight.

"I think Naoya Inoue is the best in the world, and Oleksandr Usyk is not even close. If I showed you the fifth round of the Fury vs Usyk fight and said that the Ukrainian is No. 1 pound-for-pound, you would say that it's impossible because he missed the usual uppercuts. His head is up, his hands are down – that's my opinion. We didn't see that with Inoue," Arum said.

Before that, New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) dispelled the main myth about Usyk's weakness. And Russian Oleg Taktarov called the results of the fights between Oleksandr and Tyson fabricated.

Saudi Arabia has already officially announced the date of the boxers' rematch. In turn, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) has decided to deprive the Ukrainian of his belt.

There was also an unexpected twist to the Usyk-Fury rematch. It happened after Croatian Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) lost to British Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs).
