"Usyk is garbage": boxing legend criticizes Ukrainian champion
The legendary American boxer James Toney spoke derogatorily about Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). The former world champion in three weight categories, who was nicknamed "Turn Out the Lights" for his powerful knockout punch, expressed confidence that our compatriot achieved his success only due to a coincidence.
Tony said this in an interview with the Marko Boxing YouTube channel, Boxing Social reports. The US representative, who has won 77 out of 92 fights in the professional ring and has never lost by knockout, accused the Ukrainian of relying on speed and skill rather than power.
"Oh, Usyk is garbage... He just happened to be at the right time and at the right moment. If he had boxed in my era, he would have been destroyed by everyone left and right. Almost everyone today would be destroyed. Hell, no-they wouldn't exist in my era. Or even in the 70s or 80s," said Toney.
On November 16, a press conference was held in London to officially announce the confrontation between Usyk and the British Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs). Interestingly, the boxers almost fought during the duel of the eyes. In addition, the Ukrainian admitted how the postponement of the fight affected him. Oleksandr also paid a number of compliments to his British opponent.
Earlier, our compatriot urged journalists not to ask him questions about Tyson. And during the WBC congress in Tashkent, a local media representative touched Usyk by asking him a question in Ukrainian.
In addition, bookmakers abruptly changed the quotes for the Usyk-Fury fight. In his turn, Oleksandr spoke about what he would do after defeating Tyson, who recorded a video message to the Ukrainian with a promise to knock him out by the end of the fourth round.
News from the British boxer's training camp was also announced. And the legendary Evander Holyfield explained why Usyk will win the fight against Fury. In turn, the Ukrainian did not disclose his tactical plan for the fight.
The legendary Russian champion Kostya Tszyu gave his prediction for the fight between the Ukrainian and the British. The Gypsy King himself admitted that he is not interested in the title of absolute champion.
