Usyk admitted that he wanted to end his career, but was talked out of it

The unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) wanted to end his career after his first defeat in the amateur ring. According to our compatriot, he decided then that he was just a bad boxer who would not be able to achieve anything in the sport.

Usyk told about this in an interview with The Ring magazine's YouTube channel, talkSPORT writes. The 38-year-old star heavyweight, who became the absolute world champion in two weight categories, emphasized that his father, who set Evander Holyfield as an example, managed to dissuade him from such a radical step.

"The first time I lost a fight... It was really terrible. I thought I was a bad boxer. My coach reassured me and said I would win next time. But I said there might not be a next time. At home, I told my father about the defeat. He said it was normal, but I had to try again. And he told me the story of Evander Holyfield. Two months later, I won the competition in Crimea. I brought home a medal," Vusik recalled.

Earlier, Holyfield named one mistake that the Ukrainian boxer is close to and should not make. Oleksandr himself told us what he intends to do after his boxing career.

Usyk has also decided on his next opponent in the professional ring and the weight category in which he will fight. At the same time, he received a sensational offer to hold a championship fight in Ukraine in a new division.

In addition, the British Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) threatened the Ukrainian with revenge and called for a rematch, despite the fact that he still has to fight Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs).

It will be recalled that Oleksandr defeated Daniel by technical knockout in the ninth round in August 2023, and the Briton scored a dirty punch below the belt. The head of the Saudi General Authority for Entertainment, Turki Al Al-Sheikh, announced his intention to organize a rematch between the British and Ukrainian.
