"Unfortunately for Usyk": the former world champion gave a harsh assessment of the Ukrainian's results
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) cannot be considered the greatest boxer of all time. Even though our compatriot held all the belts in two divisions at the same time, he is significantly inferior to the athletes of 30 years ago.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with talkSPORT by former world champion in three weight categories Duke McKenzie. According to the Briton, Usyk lacks strong opponents because there are very few really strong boxers in the current heavyweight and super heavyweight divisions.
"Unfortunately for Oleksandr Usyk, he is not the greatest athlete of all time. He is a modern great athlete. We live in the era of four belts, and since he won them in the heavyweight and super heavyweight divisions, that makes him the great fighter of our time. But, unfortunately for Usyk, he doesn't have enough rivals like Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Earnie Shavers. Even in the Mike Tyson era, there were Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, and Evander Holyfield. There were exceptional champions then. None of those guys I just mentioned would have been beaten by Usyk," McKenzie said.
Earlier, the legendary Evander Holyfield named one mistake that a Ukrainian boxer is close to and should not make. Oleksandr himself told us what he intends to do after his boxing career.
Usyk has also decided on his next opponent in the professional ring and the weight category in which he will fight. At the same time, he received a sensational offer to hold a championship fight in Ukraine in a new division.
In addition, the British Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) threatened the Ukrainian with revenge and called for a rematch, even though he still had to fight Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs).
It will be recalled that Oleksandr defeated Daniel by technical knockout in the ninth round in August 2023, and the Briton scored a dirty punch below the belt. The head of the Saudi General Authority for Entertainment, Turki Al-Sheikh, announced his intention to organize a rematch between the British and Ukrainian.
Manager Egis Klimas told us when Oleksandr plans to return to the ring. Artificial intelligence has already made a forecast for the Ukrainian's fight.
