Ukrainians ask to stop paying Zelenskyy's "thousand": President responds to petition
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to analyze some aspects of the "Winter eSupport" program. This was the President's response to a petition that collected 25,000 signatures in less than a month.
The petition and Zelenskyy's response to it are published on the president's website. The author of the document emphasizes the inappropriateness of the "Winter eSupport" program, under which every Ukrainian living in the country can receive UAH 1,000 of financial support.
The document states that the funds for the program were allocated when, out of a budget expenditure of UAH 3.7 trillion, UAH 1.78 trillion is a deficit, and these funds are financed by international partners. In addition, the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine face funding problems.
"The purpose of this program is to support the population in the winter, which is necessary for a certain number of citizens. However, this is necessary only for a certain list of citizens: pensioners, low-income families, large families, internally displaced persons, etc.", the initiator emphasizes.
The author also called on the president to allocate funds for other government programs, such as "eHouse." The petition was published on the president's website on November 14. As of January 9, it had been signed by 25,714 people. To be considered by the head of state, 25,000 signatures are required.
"The launch of a program to pay one-time state aid to citizens should help support Ukrainian families in the winter and revive demand for Ukrainian goods and services," Zelenskyy said in his response. He also emphasized that this project is experimental.
Against this backdrop, the President instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to conduct an additional analysis of the problematic issues raised in the petition, taking into account the results of the current monitoring of the program's implementation in practice. The authors of the petition will inform about the results of such an inspection. As of January 7, more than 11 million Ukrainians have applied for a one-time payment of UAH 1000 under the "Winter eSupport" program.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, funds under the "Winter eSupport" program are credited to a current account with a special mode of use but are still subject to the general rules of declaration. When entering information in the declaration in section 11 "Income, including gifts," it is recommended to indicate the type of income as "Other" and specify that it is "Financial assistance "Winter eSupport."
