"This is my plan": Usyk decides to take a radical step in his career after Fury rematch
Absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) plans to leave the division after his rematch with Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs). Our compatriot intends to try to collect all the belts in the heavyweight category again, where he already did it in 2018 when he beat Russian Murat Gassiev (30-2-0-1, 23 KOs).
Usyk said this in an interview with the 3 Knockdown Rule YouTube channel, ESPN writes. According to the Ukrainian, every time he prepares for heavyweight fights, he has to gain weight, and he doesn't like it at all.
"Maybe after the rematch with Fury, I'll go down to cruiserweight. I want more cruiserweight. Maybe I can become the absolute world champion in this weight class for the second time. This is my plan. When I start the cruiserweight training camp, I have to eat all the time. It's hard, I don't like it," Usyk said.
Saudi Arabia has already officially announced the date of the second fight between Usyk and Fury. The boxers' rematch fees were also announced.
Prior to that, New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) dispelled the main myth about the Ukrainian's weakness. And Russian Oleg Taktarov called the results of Oleksandr and Tyson's fights fabricated.
Promoter Bob Arum said that he does not consider the Ukrainian to be the strongest boxer in the world. There was also an unexpected twist to the Usyk-Fury rematch. This happened after Croatian Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) lost to British Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs).
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has made a new statement regarding the deprivation of the Ukrainian boxer of the title of absolute world champion.
