The famous Ukrainian tennis player suddenly refused to continue the match at Roland Garros and left the court. Video
Ukraine's fourth ranked player Lesia Tsurenko (WTA No. 44) has withdrawn from the French Open tennis tournament. The 34-year-old from Kyiv was unable to continue her first-round match against Donna Vekic (WTA No. 40) from Croatia due to a back injury.
In the first game, our compatriot was leading 5:3, but lost the advantage by failing to realize two set points in the tenth game. Down 5:6 on her serve, Lesia suddenly grabbed her lower back and fell to the court.
After a short medical timeout, Tsurenko decided to end her performance at Roland Garros early. This was the fifth head-to-head match in history for Tsurenko and Vekic. The Ukrainian leads in wins 3:2.
Croatia's representative in the second round of Roland Garros will play against the winner of the match Marta Kostiuk (Ukraine) - Laura Pigosi (Brazil).
As OBOZ.UA reported, a year ago, Tsurenko also failed to finish the match of the 1/8 finals of Roland Garros-2023. The Kyivan reached the fourth round of the French Grand Slam for the first time, but withdrew in the first set of the match against Polish player Iga Szwietek.
