"Right now": Usyk answers questions about ending his career
The unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) has no plans to end his career after two victories over Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs). The Ukrainian noted that he is ready to rematch Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs), but now he intends to recover and rest.
He said this in an interview with the iFL TV YouTube channel on the sidelines of The Ring magazine awards ceremony, answering questions about the future. Our compatriot emphasized that he could not name his next opponent right now and does not think about boxing at all.
"A rematch with Dubois? No problem. We can do it right now. Again? I don't know, maybe we'll fight him. Right now I'm thinking about rest and a glass of red wine. I'm not thinking about boxing. Only about rest. Am I done with boxing? No, I'm not. I will continue to box," Usyk said.
It should be noted that Usyk made a splash at The Ring ceremony, winning three awards in 2024. In particular, Oleksandr was named the best boxer. After the show, the Ukrainian left a message for the public in which he recalled the events in our country.
Usyk also puzzled journalists with his appearance. On the sidelines of the show, our compatriot was threatened with revenge by the British holder of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs). At the same time, the head of the General Directorate of Saudi Arabia for Entertainment, Turki Al-Al-Sheikh, announced his intention to organize a rematch between the British and Ukrainian.
As a reminder, Oleksandr defeated Daniel by technical knockout in the ninth round in August 2023, and the Briton was noted for a dirty punch below the belt.
In turn, British boxer Frazier Clark (8-1-1, 6 KOs) called on the Ukrainian to end his career.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, manager Aegis Klimas told when Oleksandr Usyk plans to return to the ring. Artificial intelligence has already made a prediction for the Ukrainian's fight.
