Rare video of young Usyk on Crimean TV after winning the Ukrainian championship published for the first time
WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) was a little-known amateur boxer taking his first steps in boxing 20 years ago. "On its TikTok page, Ukraine Magazine published a video from 2004 that was broadcast on the Crimean TV channel Khvylia.
In the video, the then 17-year-old Sashko tells journalist Yana Babenko about his emotions during performances. At that time, the student of Simferopol's Tavria fought three fights, ending two of them with a knockout. For this, the young boxer was awarded the first place trophy and a special cup for the best technique.
"Not only the judges appreciated the excellent technique and fighting style. The spectators from the stands were chanting: "Sasha! Come on!" the report says.
"I boxed the second fight, they were screaming. I reached the final. And now people came to the final fights. I don't know what excited them, but they were also shouting: "Come on! Come on! Sasha! Crimea!"
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, a rare video of the wedding of Oleksandr Usyk and Kateryna Khmelevska appeared online. The wedding ceremony took place in one of the registry offices in Simferopol in 2009.
