Ukraine continues to take care of global food security, despite Russia's constant attacks on the ports from which grain is exported. In particular, over the 1.5 years of the maritime corridor's operation, 100 million tons of cargo have been transported to 53 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America.

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He noted that the results of the work of the maritime grain corridor are felt not only by Ukraine but also by all countries that receive our food.

"The result is felt not only in Ukraine but also in the respective countries that consume our food. Ukraine, while defending itself in this war, is also taking care of global food security through the work of the maritime corridor. Because the sustainability of our maritime industry is not only about the economy, it is also about protecting humanity," the President of Ukraine said.

Zelenskyy also thanked everyone involved in ensuring the operation of the grain corridor. Especially the Ukrainian defenders, who "ensured the return of free navigation and the expulsion of the Russian military fleet."

The export corridor was organized after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative in the summer of 2023. At first, the Ukrainian Navy announced temporary corridors for merchant ships in the Black Sea, with the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdenne.

This was followed by permanent routes. Throughout the entire period of the grain corridor's operation, Russia has been actively attacking Ukrainian ports with missiles and drones, not only the Black Sea ports but also the Danube ports of Reni and Izmail.

Despite this, in early 2024, the work of the Black Sea grain corridor reached pre-war levels."The vast majority of cargo is grain, which is so lacking in the so-called Global South," noted Dmytro Pletenchuk, the Ukrainian Navy.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukraine plans to create a food hub in Egypt. It is expected that this will help our country enter African markets with added value – pasta, flour, etc. Such exports are more profitable than selling grain as raw materials.
