Negotiations between the teams of American boxer Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) and Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) on a unification bout for the WBA and IBF lightweight world titles have been completely suspended. According to ESPN columnist Mike Coppinger, the Ukrainian will no longer enter the ring in 2024 despite the fact that the Davis-Lomachenko fight was originally scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in November.

This information was confirmed by Vasyl's manager Egis Klimas a few days ago.

Gervonta retained his WBA lightweight title last month by knocking out Frank Martin in the eighth round. Now the American will have to explore options for defending his title.

Davis' potential fall fights are:

  • a rematch with Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), who defends his title against Jose Valenzuela next month
  • a fight against William Cepeda (31-0, 27 KOs), the number one lightweight contender in all four organizations
  • a fight against WBC champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs).

Lomachenko, 36, plans to return in 2025 to defend his IBF lightweight title. The two-time Olympic champion won the title in May by defeating George Kambosos by TKO in the 11th round in Australia.

This fight was Lomachenko's first since a controversial decision loss to Devin Haney last May.
