Less than promised. It became known how much Usyk earned for the rematch with Fury
WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) received 55 percent of the total fee for his rematch with Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), Marca reports. The prize pool of the fight amounted to $190 million.
Before the fight, all the world's media reported a different distribution of income: 60/40 in favor of the Ukrainian. Thus, following the 12 rounds of the battle in Riyadh, the 37-year-old Crimean put $104.5 million in his wallet.
In the first fight, the Ukrainian, despite having three championship belts, took home $45 million, while Fury received a guaranteed $100 million despite the defeat.
In total, the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion on May 18 raised $50 million from the sale of pay-per-view broadcasts. Most of the purchases for the fight were made in the UK.
In addition, the organizers of the fight from Saudi Arabia received $40 million from sponsorship deals, and another three million from ticket sales.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on the night of Sunday, December 22, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury for the second time and defended his titles. The seventh fight of the Ukrainian in the super-heavyweight division ended with a victory on points 116:112, 116:112, 116:112.
When the Ukrainian was announced the winner, Fury's wife's reaction was caught on camera. In addition, the fight was featured in a famous cartoon. And in Russia, fake words about Volodymyr Zelenskyi were spread by the British. The Ukrainian was suspended from boxing.
A few days later, the video of the fight was blocked following a complaint from the European Football Union (UEFA), which claimed that it violated copyright law.
In addition, there are theories as to why Usyk wore an upside-down Ukrainian flag in his rematch with Fury.
It should be noted that immediately after the fight, a video appeared of what Fury wrote on the flag of Ukraine after his defeat by Usyk.
