It's official. The new date of the Usyk-Fury fight has been announced
Ukrainian WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will fight against British WBC titleholder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) on May 18. The fight for the absolute heavyweight championship will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Fury was injured on February 2 while preparing for his fight against Usyk. The fight, originally scheduled for February 17, was officially postponed.
Tyson issued a statement apologizing for the disruption of the fight and also showed a video of the moment of the injury.
Usyk's team commented on the situation with the fight being canceled with restraint.
Earlier, the media reported on who could replace Tyson Fury in the fight with Usyk on February 17.
The legendary Lennox Lewis, who is the last absolute heavyweight champion of the world today, has already reacted to the megafight failure. According to the 58-year-old boxer, Tyson will need about 3 months to recover.
At the same time, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Entertainment, Turki Al Al-Sheikh, made an official statement about the cancellation of the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
