"It's not about belts": Warren on the true purpose of the Usyk-Fury rematch
Frank Warren, head of the Queensberry promotional company and promoter of Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), when answering the question whether all championship belts will be at stake in the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), said it doesn't matter. According to Warren, it is much more important for Fury to take revenge on the Ukrainian for his defeat in the first fight.
"The rematch has been agreed, the rematch will take place, it has been announced. To be honest, we've already had such announcements before, but Tyson doesn't hesitate: if it can't be on the same terms, for the title of absolute champion, the rematch will still take place. For him, it's not about titles, it's about revenge," Warren said on the Seconds Out YouTube channel.
The promoter confirmed the information that there might not be one belt in the second fight.
"You know, I hope that all the belts will be on the line, but that may not be the case. On May 18, it was a great fight, the best heavyweight fight of the 20th century, all the belts were on the line, an exciting fight. And now we want to see it again, people want it again. It was a very close fight, everybody has an opinion about it, and that gives it extra intrigue," Warren said.
As previously reported, Usyk defeated Fury and became the owner of the WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC heavyweight belts in Riyadh on May 18.
