"I started to worry about Usyk": former Ukrainian world champion tells about the most dangerous moment of the fight and King Kong Fury for Oleksandr
During the unification fight between Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), the former Ukrainian WBC welterweight champion Viktor Postol (31-5, 12 KOs) began to worry about the Crimean not because of the cut, but after a powerful uppercut by the Gypsy King. In addition, Postol compared the massive Englishman to King Kong.
According to the former WBC belt holder, he was confident in Usyk's victory on points, but there was a moment during the fight when Viktor began to worry about Oleksandr.
"I got excited when Sasha missed one of Tyson's powerful low blows. But the tension subsided a bit after Fury was counted out in the ninth round. Then Oleksandr had the advantage," said Postol.
Not that the critical, but rather dangerous period for Usyk was in rounds five through seven.
"Yes, yes. And it was obvious that it was difficult for Sasha to approach him, to get closer because of Fury's size. He's like King Kong, and Sasha looks small against him. It was obvious that he had a very hard time. But Oleksandr coped with everything," the famous boxer added.
Earlier, in a conversation with OBOZ.UA, the former Ukrainian champion explained how the referee helped Tyson and why it will be easier for him in the second fight.
It is known that Usyk was hospitalized after the fight with Tyson Fury. Promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk provided details of the boxer's jaw injury.
Usyk defeated Fury by split decision – 115:112, 113:114, 114:113. After the fight, the British fighter called the war in Ukraine one of the reasons for his defeat. Tyson also expressed his desire to visit Ukraine.
It has become known that Usyk will lose the title of absolute world champion by the beginning of summer. This decision angered the British Tony Bellew.
And in England, they started talking about the Gypsy King ending his career after the defeat.
