"I root for him": a Russian boxer who lived in Kyiv spoke about Usyk
Russian boxer Umar Salamov (28-2, 20 KOs) has taken a liking to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs). The 30-year-old Chechen, who lived in Kyiv for several years and fought 13 fights in Ukraine, unlike most of his compatriots, spoke warmly of the Ukrainian.
Salamov said this in a commentary to journalists on the eve of his next fight, mma.metaratings.ru reports. The athlete noted that Usyk had made a most pleasant impression on him during joint sparring and communication, as well as attending his fights.
"I sparred with him a lot. He used to come to my fights when I lived in Kyiv. He has a very good human attitude. He's a very nice guy. I like him as a person. I'm always interested in watching him. I'm rooting for him," Salamov said.
It should be noted that Salamov fought in Ukraine from December 2012 to November 2015, winning all his fights. On his social media accounts, you can find a joint photo with the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov.
As reported by OBOZ.UA. media outlet, Oleksandr Usyk is planning to fight in Kyiv before ending his career.
