No celebration is complete without a variety of alcoholic beverages. And no solemn event is complete without champagne. Quite often, champagne is bought long before the celebration begins.

But can champagne go bad? How to store champagne properly so that it "waits" for the celebrations? FoodOboz answers all these questions.

How to store champagne correctly?

Champagne has a relatively short shelf life. However, if the conditions are not met correctly, the drink can spoil even earlier. The main rules for storing champagne are:

  • Bottle position. Champagne should be stored horizontally. Then the cork will remain elastic and resilient and will not crumble when opened.
  • Lighting. The drink should be stored in dark rooms that are not exposed to sunlight.
  • Temperature: +10-12°C is the optimal temperature for storing champagne. The range of +5-15°C is also considered acceptable.
  • Humidity. The optimal humidity for storing champagne is 60-75%.
  • The place of storage. The best place to store champagne is the basement. It is there that you can protect the drink from high or too low temperatures, as well as sunlight.

Can champagne go bad?

Ordinary wine can be stored for many decades or even centuries. Over time, its flavor only develops and becomes more refined. Champagne, on the other hand, can go bad due to the presence of carbon dioxide.

As a result, champagne will begin to lose its flavor and turn into a drink that is better not to drink. It is also worth noting that naturally fermented sparkling wines have a longer shelf life when compared to varieties artificially saturated with gases.
