"His team wants to": Hvozdyk says Usyk is going to make a sharp turn in his career

Hvozdyk told about Usyk's plans

The unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) really intends to go down to the cruiserweight division and fight title fights there. In particular, our compatriot is really interested in a fight for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt in the division held by Australian Jay Opetay (26-0, 20 KOs).

Former world light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Hvozdyk (20-2, 16 KOs) told sport-express.ua in an interview. According to him, Usyk's team is working on a plan to repeat the achievements of 2018 and become the absolute world heavyweight champion again.

"I would be interested to see his fight against Martin Bakole. But Sasha has already proved everything to everyone by defeating all the tops. I heard that Usyk is planning to go down to the cruiserweight division. It seems to me that his team wants to make a fight with Opetay after his fight with Ramirez to unify all the titles in the first heavyweight division again. That would be interesting to see, too," Hvozdyk said.

After his victory in the rematch with Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), Usyk has already accepted the challenge of another Briton, Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs), whom he defeated in 2023.
