Herashchenko tells what happened to her Olympic medal a month after the 2024 Games
Iryna Herashchenko, the bronze medalist in the high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games, said that her medal began to change its appearance over time. The 29-year-old athlete admitted that the trophy had become a bit frayed around the edges.
"The award is starting to come off, but it's because the copper is starting to galvanize. In short, chemical processes are going on there that are hard for me to describe, even though I had 10-11 in chemistry. But I don't remember anything from that time," Herashchenko said in an interview with CE.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on August 10, Herashchenko jumped 1.95 m at the Olympics in Paris, setting a personal best for the season. This allowed the Ukrainian to take the bronze medal, sharing third place with Australian Eleanor Patterson. Yaroslava Mahuchikh won with a mark of 2.00 meters.

In a conversation with an OBOZ.UA correspondent, Herashchenko spoke about her impressions of the competition and admitted that she eats at competitions, especially when there is no coach around. The athlete also noted that the surface at the Stade de France is as hard as at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, where she finished third.
