Former head of Russian Football Union says his countrymen should not expect a quick return to UEFA tournaments despite Trump's recent statements
Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov has slammed the ardent pro-war patriots who hope for a quick return of Russian athletes to international tournaments. According to the official, this year's teams of the aggressor country will continue to be banned.
Koloskov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The former head also complained about the allegedly biased attitude toward his compatriots in the European Football Union (UEFA), where the vast majority of countries oppose Russia.
"In 2025, we're not coming back, that's for sure. As for Trump, he says himself that he is overseas. The position of Trump and America has nothing to do with UEFA. Unfortunately, anti-Russian sentiment prevails there so far," Koloskov said.
Earlier, Koloskov expressed disappointment that the current head of the RFU, Alexander Dyukov, would not be re-elected to the UEFA Executive Committee. Instead, the legendary Ukrainian striker of Dynamo Kyiv and AC Milan, Andriy Shevchenko, may take his place.
