UEFA may appoint Andriy Shevchenko as one of executive committee members instead of Russian
The president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Alexander Dyukov, will not take part in the upcoming election to the European Football Union (UEFA) Executive Committee. At the same time, the legendary forward and head of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andriy Shevchenko is running for a position in this important organization.
This is stated on the official website. Shevchenko is on the list of five candidates for two member position on the UEFA Executive Committee, who will be elected for two years. The elections will be held at the organization's congress in the Serbian capital Belgrade on April 3.
Honorary President of the Russian Federation Alexander Koloskov in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV complained about Russia's exclusion from the UEFA Executive Committee. He also could not understand why Dyukov's name was not on the list.
"I don't know why he was not included. But it's a shame that he won't be there, because as a member of the executive committee, he could have done a lot of good for Russia as a country. Only he can dare to argue there. There may be two reasons for this. Either he refused for some reason or the UEFA president simply talked to him and explained that there could be some difficulties during the election, given the situation in Europe," Koloskov said.
