For the second time in history! Ukraine wins the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Ukraine's artistic gymnastics team of Illya Kovtun, Oleh Vernyaev, Ihor Radivilov, Nazar Chepurny and Radomir Stelmakh won gold in the team all-around at the 2024 European Championships in Rimini, Italy. Our compatriots scored 255.762 points, only 0.3 points ahead of their closest competitors, the British.

For the Ukrainian national team, this was the second victory in its history at the continental team championship. It happened in 2020. After that, our gymnasts did not win any awards in this discipline.

After the four-apparatus exercise, our team was second, two points behind Great Britain. The key performances were those of Oleh Verniaiev and Illya Kovtun on pommel horse (15.200 and 14.966 points), as well as the result of Igor Radivilov on rings (14.500 points).

Illya Kovtun and Oleh Vernyaev shone on two apparatus - the uneven bars and the high bar. Kovtun scored 15.800 on the parallel bars, while Verniaev scored 14.833. This, and Kovtun's success on the high bar (14.400), allowed him to get ahead of his rivals.

Thus, Ukraine repeated the second best result in history in terms of the number of medals at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships (5).

In addition to the team all-around, Illya Kovtun won gold in the parallel bars and high bar in individual performances. Oleh Vernyaev won a silver medal in the individual all-around and Nazar Chepurny won a bronze in the vault.

Ukraine wins the Euro medal standings for the third time in history.
