For the first time in 5 years. Ukraine's biathlon team has a strong race at the World Cup

The stage is taking place in Switzerland

Ukraine's biathlon team of Iryna Petrenko, Anastasia Merkushyna, Yulia Dzhyma and Khrystyna Dmytrenko performed well in the mass start at the 3rd stage of the World Cup in Lenzerheid, Switzerland. For the first time in 5 years, our team was represented in this discipline by four athletes.

Our compatriots had a great start to the race. At the first two firing lines, both Petrenko and Dmytrenko demonstrated perfect shooting, but their low speed did not allow the Ukrainians to rise above 15th place. Jima missed once and came to the line with a minute to spare. Merkushyna failed in the shooting (one miss on each lie).

The biathletes of the Ukrainian national team did much worse in the rack. Two hits in the "milk" from Khrystyna and one from Ira removed all questions about the final high place of our biathletes.

Thanks to her excellent speed, Dzhyma was able to climb into the middle of the peloton, but an inaccurate shot at the second post did not allow the Kyiv woman to enter the top 10. As a result, Yulia finished 16th.

Petrenko was 22nd. Dmytrenko made two misses on each of the racks and finished 25th. The penultimate (29th) was Merkushyna (6 unclosed targets).

The victory went to Frenchwoman Justine Breza-Boucher, who scored a golden hat-trick in Lenzerheide. The second and third places were shared by sisters Elvira and Hannah Eberg from Sweden.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, at the 3rd stage of the World Cup, Norwegian European biathlon champion Endre Stremseim got into a curious situation. One of the leaders of the Norwegian biathlon team dropped a clip while shooting.

The day before, in the women's passepartout, two of Ukraine's biathletes made it to the top 12: Anastasia Merkushyna took 10th place and Iryna Petrenko finished 12th.
