Drama of the day: Ukrainian favorite of the Olympics was injured during the battle for medals
Ukrainian weightlifter Kamila Konotop was injured during her performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Our compatriot, who was considered one of the main contenders for medals, "broke" right on the platform, damaging the back of her thigh.
Kamila declared the highest weight among all the participants for her first attempt in the snatch – 104 kg. Confidently handling the bar, our compatriot broke the Olympic record at the time and topped the overall table.
In her second attempt, the Ukrainian decided to lift the bar by two kilograms. As Konotop started to lift the bar, she felt pain in the back of her thigh in the first seconds and stopped trying to lift the bar.
The 23-year-old from Kharkiv returned for her final attempt after a while but quickly realized that the injury would not allow her to compete for the weight. As a result, it cost Konotop a high place – she finished the snatch competition in fifth place, losing three kilograms to the leader.
It should be noted that weightlifting competitions at the Olympics are held in two disciplines - the clean and jerk and the shot put, the sum of which determines the medalists.
