Cristiano Ronaldo's club expelled the champion of Ukraine
Al Nasr, the Saudi football club where Cristiano Ronaldo plays, has announced the dismissal of Luis Castro. The Portuguese coach had been leading the team since July 2023.
Last season, Al Nasr, led by 63-year-old Castro, finished second in the Saudi Arabian league and reached the final of the country's Cup, where it lost to Al Hilal in a penalty shootout.
In the Super Cup final, the team also lost to Al Hilal, 1-4. After the first three rounds of the 2024/25 championship, Al Nasr has gained 5 points and ranks 7th in the standings.
Castro was the head of Shakhtar Donetsk from 2019 to 2021. During his two years at the helm of the Orange and Blacks, the Portuguese won the Ukrainian Premier League in the 2019/20 season and reached the 1/8 and semifinals of the Europa League with the team.
In the fall of 2020, the Donetsk club took third place in the Champions League group, in which it played against Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In May 2021, Shakhtar refused to extend the contract with the Portuguese coach.
