Ukrainian football player will miss the Olympics
Chelsea did not allow its midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk to play for the Ukrainian national team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the Daily Mail reports. In addition to Mudryk, the London club also banned Enzo Fernandez from playing for the Argentine national team.
According to the British media, this decision is related to the new head coach Enzo Mareschi. "Chelsea doesn't want these players to miss the important pre-season training under the guidance of the newly appointed coach.
Chelsea wants Maresca to start the season with fully fit players, especially considering that last season was filled with injuries from start to finish.
The London-based club does not want to take any risks this summer, and it is not the only one exercising its right to refuse to release its players. Other EPL teams are expected to take a similar stance, including Manchester United with Alejandro Garnacho from Argentina.
Although Chelsea respect the Argentine Football Association, they fear that Fernandez could potentially miss 17 days of pre-season training due to his participation in the Copa America, the final of which falls on July 15. Participation in the Olympic Games will force him to miss the entire pre-season, which is seen as a key period of adaptation under Maresca.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on March 20, Ukraine received its opponents in the 2024 Olympic football tournament. Being in the fourth basket, it received Argentina, Morocco, and the third Asian team, which turned out to be Iraq, as opponents in Group B.
It is with Iraq that the Ukrainian national team will play its first historic match at the Olympic Games. The meeting will take place on July 24 in Lyon and will start at 20:00 Kyiv time.
