The absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) cannot be deprived of his status until July 2 this year. This is the day when our compatriot's medical suspension from training and fighting after his victory over Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) ends.
This is stated by the British tabloid The Sun, calling this situation a little-known rule. According to the journalists, there is no way that the International Boxing Federation (IBF) can take away Usyk's title to put it on the line for the fight between Filip Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KOs) and Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs) on June 1.
This means that the rematch between Usyk and Fury, which is scheduled for October, maybe for all the belts of the division again. The day before, the media named three reasons why it would be beneficial for promoters and organizations to keep the Ukrainian as the absolute champion. At the same time, our boxer's team will appeal to the IBF to make an exception for mandatory defense.
It should be noted that Fury was also suspended from boxing after Usyk. It is already known that the Briton will activate the revenge clause. Bookmakers have already started accepting bets on the fight.
