10 million and Tyson's replacement: Usyk makes two demands to postpone fight with Fury
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) has agreed to postpone his return to the ring and fight with Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) after the organizers from Saudi Arabia met two of his demands. The Ukrainian boxer demanded that financial sanctions be imposed on the Briton if he does not return to the ring, and that a plan B be developed for the May 18 show.
This was announced during a press conference in Spain by the manager of our compatriot Egis Klimas, Mirror reports. According to him, Usyk insisted that the renewed contract for the fight with Fury include a 10 million dollar fine in favor of the opponent in case one of the boxers refuses. According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian also demanded that a potential opponent be placed on the waiting list in case the Briton does not recover by spring.
"That was our request during the negotiations. We told the Saudis: if you're going to postpone the fight, be sure to include penalties," Klimas said.
As a reminder, the grandiose fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion was postponed due to the British cut. Tyson apologized for his injury, and a video of the incident was posted online.
When asked about the fake nature of the injury, Wisyk criticized the Gypsy King. In addition, fans reacted angrily to the situation.
The incident was also commented on by Croatian boxer Agron Smakic (20-2, 18 KOs), who dealt Fury the unfortunate blow. But ex-champion Carl Froch called the Briton's injury suspicious.
At the same time, the Ukrainian named the person responsible for postponing the show, but did not blame his opponent for it. The Gypsy King later gave details of how he got the injury. The organizers of the show in Riyadh announced a new date for the Usyk-Fury fight, setting a "draconian condition" for the boxers.
Later, the Briton attacked our compatriot with insults. And the famous Briton Dereck Chisora told how the fight would end. In his turn, the legendary Roy Jones called Oleksandr a victim of the disruption of the fight on February 17.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, bookmakers reacted unexpectedly to the postponement of the Usyk-Fury fight by changing one of the quotes on its outcome.
