Ukrainian filmmaker Oleksandr Rodnianskyi, who has been building his career in Russia for a long time, complimented Russian Yuri Borisov, who was nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Supporting Actor" category for his role in the film "Anora." According to the producer, the fact that a cultural figure from the aggressor country is on the list is a "slap in the face to propaganda" because it allegedly destroys the Kremlin's myth of Western society's hatred of Russia.

The relevant post appeared on the Instagram page of the 63-year-old media manager. He added that he has already truly "fallen in love" with the movie "Anora," because, according to him, it combines talented acting and directing.

"Yura Borisov became the first Russian actor in history to be nominated for an Oscar. This is an outstanding achievement for a talented actor. But I want to write about how Russian propaganda has once again disgraced itself. In recent years, the Russian media have been discussing the notorious Western "Russophobia" and the "abolition of the great Russian culture." Propagandists have been scaring Russians with the prospect of facing the outright hatred of their Western counterparts and the unwillingness to cooperate with them. And here is a slap in the face to propaganda. A Russian actor, and not one of the so-called "those who left" or "good Russians," receives major world film awards. And an Oscar nomination is a huge honor," said the director.

In addition, Oleksandr Rodnianskyi decided to praise Borisov's acting. According to the native of Kyiv, the Russian actor demonstrated a perfect transformation from a "hoodlum to a knight" almost without words.

The producer and creator of the film "Anora" also complimented him. He said: "Sean Baker is a good director. And a consistent one. All his life he has been making small independent films about the American poor and marginalized, about people who are humiliated and rejected by society. He did not betray himself this time. The action begins in a brothel, excuse me, a strip bar, where very good and very hardworking people work."

Earlier, Oleksandr Rodnianskyi defended "good" Russian citizens. When Russian journalist Nika Belotserkovskaya published a cautionary tale for her fellow citizens emigrating to Europe, calling them "rats" who carry the plague to civilized countries, the director liked the post. However, he was attacked with hate by offended residents of the aggressor country, so the producer said that he was simply supporting the uncompromising position of the entrepreneur.

"No, I don't consider Russians who protest against the war to be 'rats.' I have written many times that I am categorically against dividing people by blood, passport, or place of birth. I am sure there are no guilty nations, only guilty people. And I know and see many Russians who help Ukrainians in word and deed," the Kyiv native said.
