Olena Zelenska explains why the Oscar for 20 Days in Mariupol is a crucial victory for Ukraine

First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska joined the congratulations to the Ukrainian film crew of 20 Days in Mariupol, which won its first Oscar last night. The President's wife and public figure explained why this award is extremely important for Ukraine.

According to Olena Zelenska, the golden statuette is, first of all, a symbol of truth that wins in the world. The first lady wrote about this on her Instagram.

"A few days ago, it was two years since the Russians dropped a bomb on a maternity hospital in Mariupol. Two years since they have been trying to disguise the terrible crime they committed against the entire city. Against humanity," the Ukrainian woman recalled.

She thanked the documentary filmmakers Mstyslav Chernov, Yevhen Malolitsa, and Vasylisa Stepanenko for their hard, emotional, and truthful work, which could have cost the authors their lives.

"We paid a terrible price for this award. However, today everyone in Ukraine is proud of you," the First Lady summarized.

She was joined by film lovers, media figures and colleagues of the winners who reacted to the victory of the Ukrainian film. They noted how ambivalent they felt about the award.
