From Olena Zelenska to Kvitka Tsisyk: Ukrainians who made the whole world talk about Ukraine
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, the world has been talking about Ukraine much more often. Of course, the main topic of admiration has been the steadfastness and professionalism of Ukrainian soldiers, but at the same time, Ukrainians have been recognized in other areas as well.
They made people talk about themselves and their homeland far beyond the borders. On the occasion of Independence Day, OBOZ.UA decided to recall the most prominent figures with Ukrainian roots who are proud of their nationality and help their homeland.
Cinema
This year, the American Film Academy awarded an honorary Oscar for a documentary about the tragedy of Mariupol. The film 20 Days in Mariupol, made by Ukrainian videographer and war journalist Mstislav Chernov, and his powerful speech impressed millions of people.
We should also mention the actors with Ukrainian roots who have conquered Hollywood but have not forgotten their native land. Among them: Milla Jovovich, Katherine Winnick, Olga Kurylenko, Mila Kunis and others.
Modeling
Ukrainian beauties have conquered many world catwalks. Snizhana Onopka, Natalia Gotsiy, Alla Kostromichova, Ella Kandyba, and Alina Baikova made world-famous and respected brands showcase their collections on them, and magazines invited Ukrainians to photo shoots.
Music
When talking about Ukrainian music and its recognition in the world, it is impossible to lose sight of the largest song contest, the Eurovision Song Contest. After each victory - Ruslana with his hit Wild Dances in 2004, Jamal with his song 1944 in 2016, and Kalush Orchestra with Stefania in 2022 - the world has been discussing talented singers from Ukraine for a long time.
However, not only Eurovision glorified Ukrainian music. The American singer with a Ukrainian soul, Kvitka Cisyk, has won the world's most prestigious awards for her work.
The first lady
There are many worthy, hard-working and talented Ukrainian women, but traditionally, the presidential couple is considered the "face" of the country. The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, has certainly done a lot to popularize the country in the world. For example, she founded the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen.
Olena Zelenska was also the first ever wife of a foreign president to address the U.S. Congress and ask for weapons.
