Alec Baldwin played with weapons on the set of Rust: new details of the murder of Ukrainian Halyna Hutchins have been revealed

New details of the murder of Ukrainian Halyna Hutchins are known

The case of the unintentional murder of Ukrainian cameraman Halyna Hutchins by actor Alec Baldwin has been ongoing since 2021, and although the movie star is trying to hide the details, prosecutors are learning more unpleasant nuances of the filming of the tragic movie Rust. Law enforcement officials claim that the actor was playing with weapons, and his behavior was irrepressible.

In three weeks, on July 10, the second trial of Alec Baldwin will take place in Santa Fe, USA. According to The Guardians, citing prosecutors, the actor was "playing with a revolver." He was firing a blank cartridge, that is, one that does not have a bullet that would kill a person. However, the tragic event did occur and, in addition to killing Hutchins, also injured director Joel Seuss, who was behind him.

Prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Erlinda Johnson allege that Baldwin pointed the gun and fired "a blank shot at a crew member, using that crew member as his intended target."

It was previously known that the actor had been behaving inappropriately with the weapon and creating chaos on the set. He was shouting and swearing, and during the interrogation he claimed that he did not pull the trigger. New details have emerged that Baldwin allegedly asked for the largest gun available. He used the revolver "as a pointer, directing the crew members," did not follow the instructions of the project managers, and fired after being told to stop.

In particular, it was found that the defendant kept his finger on the trigger when certain scenes did not require it, was "inattentive during firearms training" and "distracted by texting, talking to family members, and shooting videos to amuse his family."

"To observe Mr. Baldwin's behavior on the set of Rust is to witness a man who has absolutely no control over his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his behavior affects others. Witnesses indicate that this behavior contributed to the safety of the set," said prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis earlier.

Baldwin denies all charges and claims he is not guilty of murder. Interestingly, the actor tried to reduce the punishment by claiming that "he was not required to follow the safety recommendations provided by the safety experts on the set."

In case he is found guilty, Baldwin will only face 1.5 years in prison for killing and injuring people. In particular, the Hutchins family has recently renewed a lawsuit against the actor and team members for "reckless behavior."

"The fact that live ammunition was permitted on the set, that the guns and ammunition were left unattended, and that Defendant Baldwin inexplicably pointed and fired a gun at Halyna Hutchins makes this a case where injury or death was much more than a possibility – it was a certainty," the lawsuit said.

The Rust gunman, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was found guilty of the unintentional murder of a Ukrainian cameraman in March this year, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. During the trial, prosecutors showed a video interview with Halyna Hutchins' mother, who could not hold back her tears while talking about her daughter.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, cameraman Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of the movie Rust on October 21, 2021. Baldwin was preparing for a scene in which he was supposed to point a revolver at the camera and shoot, but the weapon turned out to be loaded and the bullet hit the Ukrainian woman. Hutchins died after suffering a perforating wound to the chest. In particular, the bullet hit the director Joel Seuss, who was standing behind her. The man was injured but survived.
