78-year-old singer Marianne Faithfull, who made Mick Jagger fall in love with her, dies

On Thursday, January 30, British singer Marianne Faithfull passed away at the age of 78. The artist gained popularity in the 1960s when she released the single As Tears Go By, co-written by The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, who had a romantic relationship with the singer.

According to People, the tragic news was reported by the celebrity's spokesperson. The reasons for the singer's passing remain unknown.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of singer, songwriter, and actress Marianne Faithfull. She passed away peacefully in London, surrounded by her loving family. She will be greatly missed," said the star's representative.

Marianne Faithfull's death was a painful loss for rock musician Mick Jagger, who had a four-year romance with the singer in his youth. He honored the memory of his former lover on his Instagram by sharing several archival photos.

"I was very saddened to hear about the death of Marianne Faithfull. She was a part of my life for a long time. She was a great friend, a great singer, and a great actress. She will always be remembered," the star wrote.

The singer was born on December 29, 1946 in London. Marianne Faithfull began her career in the 1960s, performing various songs in institutions. One day she attended a party on the occasion of The Rolling Stones' album release, where she met the band's manager, Andrew Loog Oldham. This meeting was fateful for the artist, because the producer was able to discover her talent, and in 1964, her first song As Tears Go By was premiered. The composition, which became one of the five most popular in the UK, was written by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. After her first breakthrough, Marianne Faithfull released several more successful works, including This Little Bird, Summer Nights, and Come and Stay With Me. In the spring of 1995, she married the artist John Dunbar, with whom she had a son, but their relationship did not last very long.

The fact is that the very next year after the wedding, Marianne Faithfull and Mick Jagger began an affair that was not without loud scandals. In 1967, the singer, then 20 years old, made headlines after a party with a lot of drugs at the house of one of the members of The Rolling Stones. The police found the singer naked, but she was covering her body with a carpet. Law enforcement officials detained the organizers of the party, including Mick Jagger, but Faithfull remained at large. Every day, the artist appeared in the courtroom to support her chosen one. Their relationship ended in 1970. The singer blamed the rock musician not only for the breakup but also for the sharp decline in her career.

However, the novel inspired Mick Jagger to write several songs for the band, including Sympathy for the Devil, Wild Horses, I Got the Blues and even the full Beggars Banquet album.

But Marianne Faithfull went through a difficult period in her life after the breakup. For several years, she was addicted to drugs and even lived on the streets. The star managed to resume her career in 1979 when she released the album Broken English. Her voice had changed significantly due to the constant use of alcohol and drugs, as it became more hoarse. However, the singer sought to regain her former popularity, so she changed her style of music to jazz, creating the album Strange Weather. In recent years, her voice has been featured in the movies "Dune" and "Wild Summon."
