Chinese President Xi Jinping has supported an African "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine. He expressed hope that the leaders of several African states who are going to visit Moscow and Kyiv with their "peace initiatives" will be able to "express rational voices for peace and convince them of the need for peace talks".

Xi Jinping said this during a telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, according to Ukrinform. The Chinese leader also noted Beijing's "consistent position on the crisis in Ukraine" and expressed readiness to help end the war "through dialogue".

Chinese diplomats reported that Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) Cyril Ramaphosa. The topic of the conversation was the "Ukrainian crisis", as Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine is called in China.

Thus, according to the Chinese side, Ramaphosa noted that South Africa supports China's position paper on a political solution to the "crisis" and hopes that Ukraine and Russia will be able to resume negotiations as soon as possible.

The South African president also announced plans for a delegation of six African leaders, including himself, to travel to Ukraine and Russia to "bring about an early end to the conflict".

Xi Jinping emphasised Beijing's consistent position on the "crisis in Ukraine" and its readiness to continue to promote a political settlement and a solution through dialogue.

"It is very good that Mr President and African leaders have formed a peaceful delegation and will visit Russia and Ukraine. I hope that the peace-loving countries of the world that stand for justice will be able to express rational voices for peace and convince them of the need for negotiations," the Chinese president said.

We shall remind you that in May it became known that the presidents of several African countries would come with a "peace initiative" to Zelenskyy and then to Putin. Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet African leaders on June 16, while Putin will receive them on 17 June.

The African leaders have said they are travelling to Ukraine and Russia to offer a peace initiative to end Russia's war against Ukraine. They plan to present their plan during their tour.
