"World War III is already underway": Zvi Zilber on the connection between the wars in Ukraine and Israel. Video

The wars in Ukraine and Israel are connected

Israeli journalist Zvi Zilber believes that World War III is already underway, and all states in the world are involved in it in one way or another. The wars in Ukraine and Israel are closely related because one of the goals of the escalation in the Middle East was to divert resources from Ukraine.

He expressed this opinion on OBOZ.Talk on Monday, July 29. According to the journalist, Russian dictator Putin started World War III. It remains to be seen which event should be considered the beginning of this war - the Russian attack on Georgia in 2008 or the invasion of Donbas by Russian occupiers in 2014.

"The Third World War is already underway. During the Second World War, people did not know that they were living during the Second World War. Only later did historians say that we would call the period from September 1, 1939, to September 2, 1945, the Second World War. The only thing left to do is to determine from when to count it - from 2014 or February 24, 2022, or from 2008, when Putin attacked Georgia," Zilber said.

According to him, all countries are involved in the war - in some places it is in a hybrid form, in others it is in a hot war, and in others it is in the form of terrorist attacks.

"The situation is that all countries today are involved in this war in one way or another, either on the side of the axis of evil or on the side of the United States and its allies, democratic countries. All these wars are connected. There is no doubt that the war here (in Israel - Ed.) and the war in Ukraine are connected by a very thick umbilical cord. One of the goals of this war was to divert resources from Ukraine so that the United States and the West would have to direct resources to the Middle East, to Israel," he emphasized.

As for the statements by Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who threatened that Turkey might intervene in Israel, as it had done in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, Zilber said it was difficult to determine whether he was bluffing.

The journalist explained that on the eve of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many Western, Russian and Ukrainian experts argued that Putin had no plans to attack Ukraine and did not need to. However, the Russian dictator nevertheless launched the invasion, and Erdogan may do the same.

"Today we live in a completely new reality and I will not advise to ignore this threat. But, on the other hand, we have already heard a lot from Erdogan. For example, he promised a colossal flotilla that would go under the Turkish flag to break the blockade of Gaza. So far, no one has seen this flotilla and I don't think they will. Erdogan has imposed terrible sanctions, an embargo on all trade with Israel. But the trade continues because local officials make decisions. And the officials said that their companies, which often have shares in the United States or Europe, are bound by contractual obligations with Israeli companies," he said.

In addition, Israel receives 60% of its oil from Azerbaijan, which is transported through a gas pipeline through Turkey. The expert also believes that Ankara has neither economic nor political interests in the conflict with Israel.

"But Erdogan is an Islamist, Erdogan is a populist, he needs to pump up his popularity. I don't think this is a real threat. Turkey has no land border with Israel. It is not entirely clear what this attack will look like. They didn't land in Libya, so he better not lie. There they are participating in a "remote" operation, helping the Libyan government against the interests of Russia. Russia is supporting a rebel general in Libya, the second de facto government of Libya," the Israeli journalist believes.

He also reminded that Turkey is a NATO country, although it has recently been breaking many rules.

"But I can't imagine a NATO country attacking a country that is not a NATO member but a strategic ally. However, after February 24, 2022, I no longer rule anything out. Unfortunately, the most schizophrenic development of events imaginable may become a reality. And we will just have to adapt our psyche to it," added Zilber.

As reported, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened Israel with an invasion to help the Palestinians. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz compared Erdogan to Saddam Hussein and advised to recall what happened to the former Iraqi dictator.
