The U.S. House of Representatives may submit an alternative bill to fund aid to Ukraine after March 22. On that day, the US will end its government funding.
This date was announced by the chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, according to CNN's Congressional correspondent Manu Raju. According to him, McCaul expressed confidence that the bill will be considered after the state funding is completed.
Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a document on funding for federal agencies funded in four of the 12 annual appropriations bills. The remaining eight laws provide funding only through March 22, 2024.
When asked whether Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson had committed to doing so, McCaul suggested that the Speaker would support such an initiative.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Speaker of the lower house of the US Congress, Mike Johnson, has given US lawmakers the opportunity to agree on a new proposal for a bill that includes assistance to Ukraine. Republican supporters of the plan believe that the aid bill will be finalized by mid-March.
US President Joe Biden has already met with leaders of both houses of Congress to unblock aid to Ukraine. Following the meeting, it became known that three of the four congressional leaders supported the allocation of funding for Ukraine and urged Johnson to finally bring the bill passed by the Senate to a vote in the House of Representatives.
